Permits and Permissions
Housing Association Architectural Review Board
​
Each housing association has its own requirements for ensuring that each project meets with their requirements for maintaining the neighborhood. Traditionally here is what is required:

Request Letter or Request Form that details information about the location, what work is being requested, and who is doing the work.

Liability Insurance Document from contractor naming association as additional insured

Picture(s) of the building with drawing of where the modification(s) will be made on the exterior of the house

Specification Sheet for any equipment that will be on the exterior of the house including pictures
-
Plot plan of house showing where any exterior equipment will be in relation to property borders and the house

Copy of license from contractor completing the work

Honolulu County Permit Process
​
Each county has their own requirements for getting a permit. For Honolulu County, the requirements are listed below

Permit Application Submitted with DPP

Submit Online Application

Complete Contractor Statement (From DPP-36)

Four (4) Sets of Plans must be submitted in person at the One-Stop Permit Center’s permit counter (650 S King St (Alapai)
Honolulu, HI 96813)-
Plot Plan showing boundaries, location of house, location of equipment

Floor plan showing location of equipment, refrigerant lines, communication lines, and drain lines
-
Plans must be stamped by an engineer or an architect if it is single story and more than $40k, double story and more than $45k, or more than two stories.

Electrical Permit Application must be added if adding new system electrical or modifying electrical for the AC system

Get approved permit

Post Permit on Construction Site

Complete Work

Call DPP to set inspection date

Owner will receive closed permit notice in the mail from DPP

Hawaii County Permit Process
​
Each county has their own requirements for getting a permit. For Hawaii County, the requirements are listed below

2 Copies of Drawings (Original plus one copy)

Plot/Site Plan showing where exterior condenser and solar thermal panel are to be placed with measurements made to boundaries

Floor Plan with Mechanical Drawings showing HVAC details to include equipment location, piping runs, drain runs, and communication wire runs. Must have 2-part statement and wet signature from architect of mechanical engineer. (Two part statement includes: CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT WILL BE UNDER MY OBSERVATION; and THIS WORK WAS PREPARED BY ME OR UNDER MY SUPERVISION AND CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT WILL BE UNDER MY OBSERVATION)

Electrical Permit Application Sheet with wet signature by C-13 Electrical contractor

Electrical Drawing (Commercial Only)

ECC Form with same 2-Part Statement from above and wet signature from Architect or Mechanical Engineer

Permit Application (Yellow Copy) with wet signature by C-52 HVAC contractor
